For many, it is a form of being courteous to one another and an expression of appreciation. Nothing appears inherently wrong. However, we need to view this through a liturgical lens, and not from a worldly context.

Reflecting on the texts of some of the Lenten chant hymns points to self-reflection, to penitence, to spiritual refuge – and as Christ dies on the Cross, our minds and hearts turn to our own death. How do we fair? Are our souls ready?

As Christ withdrew to the desert and the Garden of Gethsemane, can we withdraw the noise of our liturgies for deeper communion with God?
